ESSENTIAL INTERACTIVE MASTER CLASS AND WORKSHOPS:
Sunday 22nd February 2009
09.00 - 16:00 PRE-CONFERENCE MASTER CLASS: AIRPORT SECURITY AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Changing and increasing threat levels are a serious challenge facing our airports. Every airport must be ready for the worst case scenario. Recent attacks on Glasgow Airport showed how tactics to damage airport infrastructure are changing. How can we ensure that our security systems can respond to the most sophisticated threats?
This will be an interactive full day training master class for senior airport and airline security management personnel. The session will address how to respond to the worst case airport security breach scenario through an interactive full day ‘situation room’ style scenario analysis. The objective is to enable effective responses by making the right decisions under pressure so as to minimise the impact of the attack and damage to airport infrastructure.
KEY BENEFITS:
- Awareness and identification of new threats and risks for airports
- Analysis of the situation and decision making practice
- Exchange crisis response management techniques
- Enhance your conflict management expertise

POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS: Wednesday 25th February 2009
09.00 - 12:30 Workshop A: BIOMETRIC AND AIRPORT SECURITY
Research shows that biometrics is the fastest-growing area in aviation security. This includes the use of fingerprint or iris scanners and readers for
e-passports (now in UAE airports). Biometrics can increase security and efficiency while managing large flows of people at airports and can improve
the travel experience by increasing levels of convenience for passengers.
CORE LEARNING OUTCOMES INCLUDE:
- An introduction to biometrics: technical and basic principles and their impact on legal aspects, risks and security
- Analysing the applicability of standards and the status of standardisation
- Understanding how biometric technology may be applied globally and how a multi-stakeholder approach can be taken
- Examining the business case for implementing biometric technology for airport security
- Assessing how biometric technology can support and facilitate existing processes and enhance the functionality of current security systems
CASE STUDY ANALYSIS:
AMSTERDAM SCHIPOL AIRPORT
- Analysis of a registered traveler system at Amsterdam Schipol Airport
- What is the business proposition? The structure of a public/private partnership
- Scalability and international perspectives: EU-US Corporation
SAS AIRLINES
- Examining the use of biometrics by the airlines at boarding gates
- Low cost biometrics to prevent identity fraud: how biometrics enabled end-to-end convenience in the management of identities in airport processes

13.30 - 16:00 Workshop B: UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL LIQUID TRANSFERS: LIQUID AEROSOLS AND GELS (LAGS) - FINDING A WAY FORWARD
“Airlines are much more secure today than in 2001. But the system is
still a US$5.6 billion uncoordinated mess”
Giovanni Bisignani, Director General and Chief Executive Officer, IATA
A common approach to liquids and gels is a step in the right direction towards harmonisation. This interactive workshop will address the 'nightmare' that has been created because of the lack of confidence and the lack of vision in LAGs and STEBs and how we can move towards a more commercially friendly solution.
KEY BENEFITS
- Better understanding of STEBs’ and LAGs’ international requirements
- STEBs and LAGs security supply chain
- Potential solutions for LAGs detection
- Identification of real security tamper-evident bags (STEBs)
